Have Chitrapur Saraswats lost faith in our Guru Parampara?

The Great Charlatan from Puthparti

The Chitrapur Guru Parampara or Guru Heritage of the Chitrāpur Saraswat Brahmin is the lineage of spiritual teachers (gurus), also known as Mathadhipatis or Head of the Chitrāpur Math   who have led the community throughout its history.

These Guru’s are the torch-bearers of the rich culture and heritage that the community has passed down from generation to generation. Starting with Param Poojya Parijnanāshram I Swamiji in 1708, the Parampara (lineage) continues even after 300 years.

Lord BhavaniShankar Himself is said to have blessed this Guru Parampara.

This Guru Parampara has enriched our community and the prosperity of our community, whether spiritual or materialistic is because of the blessings of our Guru Parampara.

During the last two or three decades, it appears that the faith of many Chitrāpur Saraswats in our Guru Parampara is on the wane. Otherwise why would they look for spiritual gurus from outside this glorious Guru Parampara?

Why would we look at and blindly follow a controversial person like the Afro-haired Satyanarayan Raju from Puthparti as our spiritual guru? (See his illustration: Courtesy Satish Acharya)

It appears that this otherwise enlightened community should follow the path shown by our Gurus.

I believe our Guru HH Sadyojata Shankarashram too met HH Satya Sai Baba and a crystal Shivlinga was gifted by Sri Baba

    • Thanks for this information.

But I am too small a person to make any comments on HH Sadyojata Shankarashram Swamiji’s meeting with Satya Sai Baba.

I do respect the philanthropy of Satya Sai Baba – but certainly I have different views on people who have unaccounted wealth.

To me, any person with unaccounted wealth is an enemy of the nation.

      • When one has Rs 1,000 and you give Rs 800 in charity, THAT is philanthropy.

When one has Rs 40 crores and you give Rs 3 crores in charity, that is INVESTMENT for the future.

      • Very true!

  2. I absolutely agree with you when you object to Chitrapur Saraswats “running after” charlatans like Satyanarayana Raju aka Sai Baba of Puttaparthy.

Even when Parijnanashram Swamiji were still the Mathadipati of Chitrapur Math, there were many who followed this Satyanarayana Raju.

And by the way, in one of your other posts, it was mentioned that Silk Sarees were seized from one of the Puttaparthy properties – wonder why? Is there credence to the rumour that Satyanarayana Raju was a secret cross dresser?

    • Since you are in USA, if you get an opportunity do ask for a CD of the movie ‘Oh My God” – really exposes the charlatans who loot people in the names of donations to temples.

Money is spent on ‘so-called charities’ like hospitals to convert some of the black money (unaccounted wealth) into white (accounted money)

A man earning say Rs. 100 million gives quarter of a million on charity is not a philanthropist.

Someone earning say Rs. 10000.00 and giving say Rs. 2500 as charity is truly a philanthropist!
